Starbucks and Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop are expanding to new locations in southwest Sioux Falls this spring.
The two businesses will take spaces in a newly constructed retail center at 3617 W. Avera Drive in front of WilLiquors and Cornerstone Bank, along a busy corridor of South Louise Avenue.
The ease of access from Interstate 229 and the rise of popularity to the area will cater to those nearby businesses, Lloyd Vice President of Retail Raquel Blount said.
The new Starbucks location will also be the sixth Sioux Falls store for the coffee giant as they continue to grow throughout the city.
“This region and Sioux Falls have been a good market for Starbucks,” Blount said. “They are excited about the opportunity and want to continue to be the top player in coffee in Sioux Falls.”
For Capriotti’s, the expansion means the opening of their second location in the city after opening at 2504 S. Marion Road in 2018.
“I feel like it has been a long time coming,” said franchise co-owner Tanya Niewald, who owns the franchise with her husband, Aaron Niewald. “This shop has been well received by the community and we are grateful to be expanding.”
The sandwich franchise, started in 1976 in Wilmington, Delaware is best known for their Thanksgiving sub called the Bobbie that has homemade turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayo.
The new space will be smaller and with a different layout than the other Capriotti’s location. The second location also will not feature a pickup window. Instead, curbside pickup is available for customers who are hesitant to dine in during the coronavirus pandemic, Niewald said.
Both Capriotti’s and Starbucks plan to open in the spring, Blount said.
